सिंहासनगता नित्यं पद्माश्रितकरद्वया ।
शुभदास्तु सदा देवी स्कन्दमाता यशस्विनी ॥

Skandamata ( The Mother of Wisdom)

On this day, the fifth form of the Goddess Durga, Maa Skandamata, is worshipped.

This name was bestowed on Maa Parvathi upon giving birth to Kartikeya or Skanda. She carries skanda in her lap. Skandamata is also known as Padmasana as she sits on a lotus flower.

Alankar

Skandamata carries Murugan in her lap. She has four hands, baby Murugan in one of her right hands, and keeps the other hand in Abhaya Mudra.  Skandamata can be seen mounted on a ferocious lion.

Colour: yellow, This fifth day’s colour signifies happiness and brightness.

Prasadam: Pongal is offered on this day. Bananas are offered to Skandamata on this day.

Flowers: To seek the blessings of Skanda Devi, worship the Goddess with yellow rose flowers.

Mantra: Sinhasangata nityam padmashritkardvya , Shubhdastu Sada Devi Skandmata Yashswini.

Significance:

Devotees who worship with utmost devotion on this fifth day will be blessed with love and motherhood. It is believed that she blesses devotees with salvation, prosperity, and power..
