Vibuthi

Vibuthi

Every Hindu will use Vibhuti and Sindur on a daily basis when performing puja or rituals. These items can be found in every home. Kumkum and vibhuti are essential components of Hinduism and Indian culture. Shiva is also known as Digambara, which means “ash-clad.” Many priests and monks will be seen wearing ash from head to toe across India. Agoras were seen applying ash from head to toe in the Varanasi ghats.

Vibhuti is a very fine white ash substance. This substance is obtained from burning specific kinds of wood during agamic rituals. Shiva’s followers mostly use the vibhuti every day while performing puja. Three horizontal lines are drawn on the foreheads before they start pooja. It is believed that if you use vibhuti daily, it will protect us from all bad evils and also from accidents. Vibhuti will keep Yamadharma, Raj, at bay.  In every Shiva shrine, Vibhuti is also used during rituals in temples for Shiva.
