These are the 3 R’s of waste management, and represent a hierarchy of waste management strategies:

1. Reduce: This involves reducing the amount of waste produced in the first place, by minimising over-packaging, buying products made from sustainable materials, and using products more efficiently.
2. Reuse: This involves using a product more than once before it becomes waste. Examples include using refillable water bottles, cloth grocery bags, and repairing items rather than buying new ones.
3. Recycle: This involves turning waste materials into new products. It conserves natural resources, reduces the need for new raw materials, and reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills.
