India is a land of culture and rituals. People belong to different religions and have their own sets of beliefs and celebrate their festivals according to their calendars. Hindus in India perform different pujas and festivals to please the gods.
After Diwali, people eagerly await ika Poornima which also called
Tripurari Purnima or Tripuri Purnima. Sometimes Kartik Purnima is called “Deva Diwali” or “Deepawali.” It is the festival of the lights of the gods.
This auspicious day is celebrated on full moon day which falls in November -December)
Kartik Purnima will be celebrated on November 8, 2022.
I chose a date and time. Kartik Purnima Tuesday, November 8, 2022 Starting November 7, 2022, at 04:15 p.m. Purnima Tithi will come to an end on November 8, 2022, at 04:31 p.m.
Hindus celebrate this holy day with devotion by worshipping Lord Shiva and Vishnu. Performing puja on the day will get you relief from all sins and problems in life.
On this day, gods from heaven descend on earth and can be found in all holy rivers, including the Ganges, Yamuna, Narmada, Krishna, and Godavari. They take a holy dip in these rivers and recommend performing special pujas to attract prosperity.
During this month, Hindus observe Satya Narayana puja and the goals of Rudra Abhishek.
Shivalingam is given a milk and honey bath.
Tripuri Poornima is celebrated with great pomp and gaiety in Varanasi on this day. They light diyas in their homes as well as on the banks of the Ganges. The Ganges Ghats are a sight to behold.
Diyas are lit with cotton wicks dipped in cow ghee. On this day, 365 wicks are lit. believe that lightning 365 wicks represent the sins committed in one’s life over a year that will be burned and removed
The Hindu religious texts say that Kartik Purnima is one of the most loved days of Lord Vishnu. So, devotees perform Satya Narayan Vrata on Kartik Purnima. People also place diyas or lamps under the Tulsi plant and Amla trees, which are considered to be the abode of Lord Vishnu.
People do not shave, cut their hair, pick flowers and fruits, cut trees, cut crops, or even engage in sexual unions.
Puja Vidhi
- Taking a holy dip in the Ganges is considered auspicious in Hindu scriptures.
- Place the photo of Lord Vishnu or Shiva in the puja room.
- Flowers, sandal paste, turmeric paste, vermilion, and fragrant materials should be used to decorate the idol.
- Use cotton wicks dipped in cow ghee to light lamps.
- Turn on the dhoop sticks.
- Begin the puja by praying to Lord Ganesh.
- Lord Shiva or Lord Vishnu’s names should be chanted.
- You can recite Vishnu or Shiva Chalisa.
- Now, perform Aarti and pray for the happiness and well-being of your family and household.
- Have Darshan of the rising moon in the evening, and offer “Arghya” (water) and flowers. Do Namaskar

The Importance of Karthika Poornima and Tripuri Poornima
This Matsya avatar was Lord Vishnu’s first incarnation, and he is remembered today. He rescued Manu (the first man) from devastating floods.
Lord Shiva defeated the demon King Tripurasura on Kartik Purnima. This diva was honoured in heaven with lightning diyas. As a result, the day is also known as Deva Diwali.
Today is also Vrinda’s birthday.
Lord Shiva, the personification of the Tulsi plant, accepted Kartikeya as his son and recognized him as the God of War.
On this day, the eternal love couple Krishna and Radha performed their sacred dance RAAS-LEELA.
The day has been dedicated to the dead ancestors known as Pitrs.
It is known as Maha Karthika because it falls under the Krittika Nakshatra.
The scriptures state that performing puja, Japa, tapa, daan, and yagna on Tripuri Purnima yields far greater results than on other days of the year.
