Tulsi

Tulsi is considered to be a holy plant for Hindus. Often, people believe this plant has a mythological story and it is an avatar of the Goddess Lakshmi. and thus consort of the God Vishnu. Vrinda is another name for Tulsi (basil). It is a shrub and is planted in the centre of a courtyard of Hindu houses. It has medicinal benefits.

History:

According to Padma Purana, Tulsi Vivah and its rituals are discussed in this scripture. It’s a gateway to heaven, or Vaikunta. The botanical name for Tulsi is  (Ocimum sanctum Linn), known for its varied properties. In Hindi, it is Tulsi and Basil in English. Basil is an umbrella for Ayurvedic doctors in treating various diseases, and they use it as a herbal tea for a variety of ailments. Lord Venkateshwar likes the tulsi garland offered by devotees.
