Chess

  • Chess is a two-player strategy game that originated in northern India around the 6th century. The game is played on a square board with his 64 cells arranged in an 8×8 grid. Each player starts with his 16 pieces: a king, a queen, 2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops and 8 pawns.
  • The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent’s king. This means that the king is in a position where it can be captured (in chess) and there is no way to release the king from capture (frost). The game is won  by checkmating the opponent’s king or surrendering the opponent for superior position.
  • Chess has become one of the most popular and widely played games in the world and is recognized as a sport by many organizations. The game is played  at both amateur and professional levels and hosts numerous international chess tournaments and championships  each year. Additionally, games require strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, and are therefore used as tools for educational and cognitive development.
